Corporation Documents 1920, 1938, 1955.

This series consists of items pertaining to the incorporation of the Women's Missionary Society/United Lutheran Church Women (WMS/ULCA) of the United Lutheran Church in America. There is the initial application for the incorporation filed in 1919 and granted in 1920. The remaining documents pertain to changes made to the charter. There is a 1938 petition to amend the charter so as to reflect the relocation of the headquarters from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, the subsequent order of the court granting that amendment, a revision in the number of board members allowed, and a new amendment allowing officers of the corporation to take necessary steps to obtain amendments to the charter. It was noted in the petition to amend the charter that in 1933 under Pennsylvania's corporation code, the WMS/ULCA classification became that of a nonprofit corporation. There are documents pertaining to a 1955 application for the registration of a new corporate name for the WMS/ULCA, and an application requesting a change in the charter to reflect the new name, United Lutheran Church Women. There is also a decree authorizing the change of name. It is unlikely that this copy of the decree is the official copy. It does not appear to have any type of seal affixed to it, or have any signatures. The records are arranged chronologically.
